Kabini is a haven to tourist. With its diverse flora and fauna, the Nagarhole National park is one of the best known wildlife reserves in India. During the searing summer months, hundreds of elephants make their way to the Kabini forests, in search of water and fresh pastures. Watching them gather in hundreds on the shores of the backwaters, during summer, is a magnificent sight to behold.
Safari- The Nagarhole National park is situated in the Coorg and Mysore districts of Karnataka. It is flanked by the Bandipur national park to the south-east and Wayanad wild life sactuary to the south-west.
The forests are home to the famed Asiatic elephants, Tiger and wild dogs. They also are native to the endangered species dholes and black panthers. It is a haven for bird-watchers as varied birds call this land, home. With a trained naturalist on board, head out to the reserve for the most opportune sightings.
The safari at the Nagarhole national park is run by the government. They have options for both land safari and boat safari. You can opt for a canter or jeep to go around the forests.
The boat safari would give opportunity to see snake birds, crocodiles, huge herds of elephants on the bank, sometimes swimming across the river to the forests of Bandipur.
Safari timings: 6.30 am and 3.30 pm.
One of the unique ways to enjoy the waters of Kabini is taking the coracle ride. Mostly used by the local folk for fishing, you can spot animals in their natural habitat while on this ride.
